As soon as I met Alex in the Summer of 2000, I knew she'd be a friend for life. Despite the fact that I only spent a mere two weeks getting to know her, it was enough to spur an unbreakable friendship.

Over the course of 2000/2001, I got to know Alex even more. I always told her about my latest challenges with my health, and she always wrote back updating me on her life. Alex always made sure to add complement or two to every email she sent to me.

In January of 2001, Alex nominated me for a scholarship being sponsored by VERIZON Communications and Z100 Radio. --$10,000 was to be awarded to one grand prize winner as a scholarship, for their efforts towards making the world a better place.-- In combination with her nomination, I sent in extra information on the Stamp Campaign.

Just a few weeks later, Z100 Radio contacted me to notify me that I was a finalist in the contest. At the time, I was more both over-shocked and overjoyed. After they had given me the great news, I had great confidence that something would come of it: and something came indeed.

In April of 2000, I was declared the winner the scholarship contest. I got a call from Z100 Radio in the early morning hours of one day in early April, and they interviewed me and told me that I was the contest winner.

At the time of the interview, they read Alex's essay, and they were by far some of the sweetest words ever used to describe me.

That day, in its entirety: the interview, the scholarship, the essay--even the concept of the winning a scholarship for making the world a better place, was like no other.

Alex is by far, one of the sweetest people I've ever met. From the beginning, she's always been rooting for me and has been there for moral support ever step of the way. I respect her for so many different things, but I think the thing that I respect her most for appreciating me for who I am. Alex is someone cares about anyone and everyone. Alex is someone who is always lending a hand to those who need it most. Alex is simply someone who makes my world even more beautiful than it already is.
